Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Claims Maiden Title in Nearly 30 Months
19 of the Russian's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his first trophy for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.
Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has experienced a torrid year, managing just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in particular - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-time coach Cervara.
Currently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
It is his first title after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface from that period of 2023.
Success also signifies he has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one various events.
"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his last six title deciders, featuring in Halle previously this season.
Medvedev's defensive play style and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had led observers to wonder if his ability to perform at the highest level was finished.
Yet the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete positively, supported by an enhanced serving game.
He recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the concluding five points to take the lead.
The competitors traded breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial professional title, gained dominance to force a third set.
He rescued 4 early chances in a close final set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.
Fittingly, the winner clinched the title with a point at the net, with Moutet failing to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
